A busy May concludes in a run up to even busier June

The month of June is always a busy month. Families juggle graduations, Fathers’ Day, and the end of school. As we finish up a busy May, the Foundation has two June events in the works that should allow us all to have some fun, relax and enjoy.
On June 16 is the Fifth Annual Kentlands Under the Lights. Once again, Market Square will be transformed with food, live music and a beer garden. The beer garden is a new addition to Under the Lights. The Wine Harvest will be highlighting six local breweries: Jailbreak, RAR, 7 Locks, Flying Dog, Calvert and Brawling Bear. With live music performed by Donuts for Dinner, John Santell on his accordion, and a violin string quartet of local students, the Quadrivium String Quartet, performing to raise funds for The Children’s Inn at the NIH. A preview of the classical concert Musica Viva will also be presented that evening. The wonderfully talented Alessandra Cuffaro, violin soloist, and Maestro Simeone Tartaglione will give us a taste of what we will experience on June 23.
Please reserve the evening of Saturday, June 23. If you miss the concert, you will have missed a highlight event. The concert will be a wonderful evening of classical music performed by Ms. Cuffaro and Maestro Tartaglione who previously performed at the fundraiser reception for the concert held on May 6. Their performance at the reception was electrifying with the audience awarding them two standing ovations. A special thank you to all the volunteers whose hard work made the evening reception possible.
On June 28, the Foundation will hold its Annual Meeting. The reception will recognize outgoing Executive Board members, committee chairs and program partners. In addition to the recognition these volunteers so richly deserve, the Annual Meeting also serves as a celebration the Foundation’s accomplishments of the past year.
The One Main Street Initiative is bringing the first phase of the initiative to a close. A Town Hall Meeting will be held on May 30 to bring the community up to date with the proposed retail strategy and the recommended initiatives for Main Street and Kentlands Downtown. The Town Hall will begin with a reception at 7 p.m. at the Kentlands Mansion with the presentation to follow at 7:30 p.m. There will be a question-and-answer session following the presentation. If you are unable to attend on May 30, the OMSI will meet with the KCA Board on May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kentlands Clubhouse and with the Mayor and City Council on June 4, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
