In the 1980’s, the concept of new urbanism was born as an alternative to the sprawling single-use developments of post-WWII neighborhoods. The principles of new urbanism focus on how cities were structured centuries ago with walkable blocks, accessible public spaces, and high density.Kentlands, a community envisioned by Joseph Alfandre and designed by DPZ, was one of the first new urbanist communities in the United States. Working closely with the City of Gaithersburg and with input from the community at large, the idea of Kentlands was born. Every detail within Kentlands was designed with the idea of community interaction in mind.Through the years, Kentlands has matured and evolved. Through lectures, events, and social media, The Kentlands Community Foundation strives to educate residents on the ways in which new urbanism impacts our day-to-day lives and the future of our community.Stay current on all Kentlands Community Foundation New Urbanism events by following us on social media.

Cocktail Class to benefit New Urbanism

Elevate your bartending knowledge and skills with a virtual cocktail class taught by the founders of Cocktail Curations. This year, we will be mixing up a green apple and mint cocktail while exploring spirits, flavors, essential bar tools, and bartending techniques. You will learn the history behind the cocktail, as well as, proper ratios and techniques for crafting your own cocktail at home. In addition, participants will learn how to balance and blend fresh flavors into handcrafted mixers.

You do not have to be a Kentlands resident to attend, so grab your friends and make a cocktail with them virtually!

In ingredient list and/or link to purchase a cocktail base through Cocktail Curations will be emailed to you after registration. The event will be held on Zoom. A link will be sent to the email address you provide us. Links may not be shared with anyone outside your household.

All profits will benefit the Kentlands Community Foundation’s new urbanism program. Please note that all charges will appear as RunSignUp. All participants must be at least 21 years old to participate.
